Maasvlakte 2 Starts Rocking
Yeoman Bontrup, the first ship carrying stone for the hard sea defences for Maasvlakte 2, Europe’s largest port construction and dredging project, unloaded in Rotterdam on 17 January
The material comes from Bremanger, about 200km north of Bergen, Norway, and over the next two years ships loaded with 90,000 tonnes of natural stone will arrive every two weeks. In total, 5M tonnes of new stone are needed for the vast project, while a further 2M tonnes of rock from the existing Maasvlakte sea defences will be recycled.
