Dredging Projects
Manila flows easier
The Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission estimates that over half the targeted volume – about 2M m3 of silt – has been dredged after seven months’ work on Metro Manila’s main waterway. The project was deemed urgent because of the frequency of flooding that had displaced Manila residents. Belgian firm Baggerwerken Decloedt en Zoon aims to scoop the remaining 1.3M m3 that was contracted before year end.

Pembroke powers up
A dredging campaign to allow abnormally large and heavy equipment for Pembroke Power Station to come in by sea instead of road is to begin. RWE npower said dredging of the approach channel to the Welsh site in Milford Haven Port would enable Alstom, builder of the power station, to bring in large items. A backhoe dredger will be deployed and the silt removed transported by hopper barge to a disposal area off St Ann’s Head.
